On 18 November of this year the boys of III Q of I.S.I.S.S. A. Manzoni, with the boys of IV Q and the teachers Di Ture, Grassito and Pascarella, went to the hydroelectric station in Presenzano for a guided visit. After about an hour of travel, the visit started under the guide of engineer Ciro Posabella who explained the importance of the hydroelectric station in Presenzano, with explanatory panels and a plastic model which reproduces the working of the station.
In the hydroelectric station in Presenzano the “primary” hydraulic energy is accumulated in the basin at the top of the mountain. During the working generation, the water crosses the galleries in pression and the forced conducts and arrives at the station. Here it acts on the shovels of turbine which transforms the hydraulics energy into mechanic energy of rotation and passes to the alternator, which transforms it in electric energy. Through the trasformator, the electric energy is passed on the lines of 380 KV. During the night, the electric energy is drawn from the net through the trasformator and provided to the alternator which works as a motor. The motor passes the mechanic energy which works as a pump: it draws the water from the lower basin and sends it again at the superior basin. The pumpings systems in the daytime produce valuable energy, while in the nighttime uses the energy which is disposable for the pumping. The system has an electric power which can furnish 350000 domestic users.
